Celebrating our veterans' contributions and Asian American Heritage month on Armed Forces Day. 

The Sons of the American Legion at American Legion Post 1291 aka The Lt. BR Kimlau Post in Chinatown NYC hosted a presentation of "Fighting for the Dream" with author Victoria Moy and 7 veterans who are in the book who are also members of the Kimlau Post.

The veterans included 101-year-old Peter Woo (US Army Air Force, Intelligence for 407 Squadron, 14th Air Force aka Flying Tigers), Judge Randall Eng (US Army National Guard, First Asian American judge in NYC), Mimi Wang (US Army, Persian Gulf vet, First female commander at American Legion post 1291), Wilem Wong (US Army Reserve, Iraq & Afghanistan veteran), Gabe Mui (US Army, Vietnam war era vet, former commander & adjutant of AL Post 1291), Pakee Fang (US Marine Corps, Iraq war vet), Howard Chin (US Army, Iraq veteran). Also Sherman Eng (US Army, Vietnam War era vet) spoke about his experiences.

The Kimlau Post's Sons of the American Legion presented Peter Woo a photo of himself taken by photographer Corky Lee, and Sons of the American Legion caps, t-shirts, and wine to Post 1291 Commander Kenny Wong and Adjutant Gabe Mui.

Former Army Chaplain Captain James Yee brought his art prints made on paper made out of recycled military uniforms.

May marks the celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, a time to celebrate the impact AAPI’s have made to our country.

Here's an article by Major General Bill Chen, U.S. Army Retired: "American Flag Rank Officers of Chinese Ancestry" which honors and pays tribute to the Generals and Admirals of Chinese American heritage who preceded him and documents American history that is part of the Chinese American heritage.

    Victoria Moy, author of Fighting for the Dream: Voices of Chinese American Veterans from World War II to Afghanistan spent 7 years collecting the oral histories and putting together this book. She was born and raised in New York City and currently lives in Los Angeles. She graduated with a MFA in Playwriting/ Screenwriting from the University of Southern California.
